Primary 2 / 3 Test:

English test

The English test comprises 34 multiple-choice questions on comprehension and language use.

Duration: 1 hour

  • Comprehension based on 2 passages (6 items)
  • Comprehension cloze based on 2 passages (10 items)
  • Vocabulary (5 items)
  • Grammar (5 items)
  • Spelling (8 items)

Mathematics test

The Mathematics test comprises 2 parts.

Duration:

Part 1: 25 minutes

Part 2: 40 minutes

  • Part 1: Multiple-choice questions (29 items)
  • Part 2: Short-answer questions (17 items)

NOTE: The use of calculators is not allowed. For short-answer questions, your child will have to show the method of solution (working steps) clearly and write the answer in the space provided.

Primary 4 / 5 Test:

English test

The English test comprises 2 parts.

Duration: 2 hours, the paper is taken in a single sitting.

Part 1: Writing. 

2 topics are set, one of which comes with a picture. To choose 1 topic and write a composition of at least 100 words on it.

Part 2: Comprehension and language use. 50 compulsory multiple-choice questions comprising:

  • Comprehension based on 2 passages (10 items)
  • Comprehension cloze based on 2 passages (12 items)
  • Vocabulary (14 items)
  • Grammar (14 items)

Mathematics test

The Mathematics test comprises 2 parts.

Duration:

Part 1: 35 minutes

Part 2: 50 minutes

  • Part 1: Multiple-choice questions (30 items).
  • Part 2: Short-answer questions (8 items) and open-ended questions (6 items).

NOTE: The use of calculators is not allowed. For short-answer and open-ended questions, your child will have to show the method of solution (working steps) clearly and write the answer in the space provided.

Secondary 1 / 2 / 3 Test:

English test

Duration: 2 hours 10 minutes, comprises 2 parts:

Part 1: Writing. 

2 topics are set for Sec 1 test, and 4 topics are set for Sec 2 and Sec 3 tests.

To choose 1 topic and write a composition on it:

  • 200 to 300 words for Sec 1 test.
  • 250 to 350 words for Sec 2 test.
  • 300 to 400 words for Sec 3 test.

Part 2: Comprehension and language use. 50 compulsory multiple-choice questions comprising:

  • Comprehension based on 2 passages (15 items)
  • Comprehension cloze based on 2 passages (15 items)
  • Vocabulary (10 items)
  • Grammar (10 items)

Mathematics test

The Mathematics test comprises 2 parts.

Duration:

Part 1: 30 minutes

Part 2: 1 hour 45 minutes

  • Part 1: Multiple-choice questions (34 items).
  • Part 2: Short-answer questions (20 items) and open-ended questions (10 to 15 items).

NOTE: The use of calculators is not allowed. For short-answer and open-ended questions, your child will have to show the method of solution (working steps) clearly and write the answer in the space provided.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Pencil to shade their answers for the multiple-choice questions on the Optical Answer Sheet (OAS)
